At the age of 43, my husband unexpectedly died, leaving me a widowed, single mom of four children ages 5, 7, 9, and 11. My hiatus as a homemaker mom was over. Instead of returning to engineering in manufacturing, I retrained to teach. A widow friend of mine purchased this cross for me while I completed my degree. My graduation with my masters degree in teaching coincided with the opening of a new Catholic high school, the same high school my own children will eventually attend. Now I am the math and science department chair and teacher at this school. By God’s grace my children and I are remembering our past with their father, living in the present, and hoping for our future.
