My dear friend of many years gave me this cross when I went to Africa to learn about extreme poverty in the world. I spent a week in the third largest slum in Nairobi. My cross has the word Courage written on it and God gave me all the courage I needed to get there. I found hope, love and deep commitment within the community of Huruma. Despite all the despair, there was God, caring for His children. My granddaughter just completed a year’s assignment with the Army in South Korea. It was a lonely, hard time for her. She came home for a ten day leave before her new two year assignment in Japan. I gave her the cross and told her how much it meant to me and I asked her to pass it on to someone someday, who also needed courage. |
