My sister-in-law who lives in Florida gave my husband a cross for me. He hand-delivered it to me in Seattle after returning from a visit there. Three days later I received news that a lovely woman I had worked with named Dolly had recently and unexpectedly lost her husband Bill. I immediately picked up the phone and called her. She told me of the rich conversations she and Bill had in the weeks before he died and how she had prayed to help ease his journey. When he passed, Bill had a small wooden cross in one hand and Dolly’s hand in the other. Dolly eased the way for Bill’s children and created a loving environment for her husband’s passing. Now she is healing.
Dolly is currently living in – of all places – Florida. She is near her sister and other relatives, all of whom want her to either live with them or very close by. Because she has been a good friend to so many, she has many loving friends. Naturally, I am sending my cross to Dolly. It says “Friendship” on it, and I can think of no other friend who would be a better recipient. I hope that this cross reminds Dolly of all of the loving friends she has, and will always have, as she grieves the loss of her husband and moves forward with her next chapter.
So, my cross started in Florida, traveled to Seattle (about as far across this country as you can get!), and is now back on its way to Florida. Thanks to my sister-in-law Tammie for starting this wonderful journey.
