On Sunday in church, this young boy who is currently in foster care came up to me with a beautiful blue bag – he shyly said he had a gift for me. While he and the others in his foster group home had been painting crosses the week before, he ran into a volunteer who knew that this young boy and I attended the same church. Through the volunteers bubbly personality and there now common bond, she was able to get the young boy to open up and enjoy his time making and painting crosses. Together they created one for me, prayed for me and wrote me a note. I will treasure my cross and will always remember to pray for this young boy as he navigates the waters of foster care and my dear friend who made an impact in his life that evening painting crosses.
